I LOVE Cocoa Beach. It was only about 73 degrees, but not a cloud in the sky. It's only going to get nicer as the week progresses:)

Day 3
The weather didn't exactly cooperate down here in the Keys today. Our friends, the Moffitts, drove down from Cocoa to meet us so that the boys could all go scuba diving. They drove through an insanely heavy downpour and dodged tornadoes to get here. Since it was too choppy on the water, Key Dives canceled snorkeling for the day so while the boys ventured off to go SCUBA diving all of us girls went to a low budget sea world kind of place called Theater of the Sea. It was pretty cute. They had parrot, dolphin and sea lion shows, plus a guided wild life tour. MK got to pet a nurse shark (here she after the fact): and we had lunch at an overpriced snack bar. The Moffitt girls plus their friend, Alyssa, paid a little extra and got to "meet the dolphins". We spent about 2 1/2 hours there and then came back to the hotel where the girls played in the heated pool. The boys finally dragged themselves back from the SCUBA adventure looking very green around the gills. As it turned out they all got sea sick. Mikey was hit especially hard :( They were out on the water for almost 3 hours and never got to dive! Steve and Nick managed about a half hour, but Dad and Mike were just not feeling well enough. Not fun!! After they changed we all went out to dinner at a place called The Hungry Tarpon. I had the best Key Lime Pie ever for dessert.

Here we are about 1,150 miles from home in Islamorada, Florida sitting in our room in the Hampton Inn sipping herb tea that we brought up from the lobby. We spent last night in Savannah. We got there early enough to take a nice walk down Bull Street up to Forsythe Park. We saw at least 4 wedding parties along the way including one actual wedding taking place at Forsythe Fountain. This fancy pants couple had just emerged from the Hilton:
This squirrel was practically tame. MK went right up to it and it barely budged until we realized that it was gorging itself on a pile of m&ms that someone left at the base of the tree. All that chocolate can't be good for a woodland critter.
It got a little chilly as the sun went down. 54 degrees by the time we were in for the night. We ate at Hueys on the river. Here's Mikey waiting for his Shrimp Poboy: I always get shrimp and grits when we are in the south, but Huey's was a bit too Cajun for me. We also hit up a fudge kitchen and got some yummy treats there. This morning we drove down 95 and then on Florida's Turnpike listening to The Hunger Games on Dadddy's iPod. I LOVE that book. It was even better the second time for me. We ate at the local BK for dinner where they wanted to charge us 47 cents per package for extra bbq sauce. What the?? We are just down the street from Key Dives' where depending on the weather, we hope to snorkle/scuba dive tomorrow. Right now there is 60% chance of t-storms so it's not looking good. Perhaps we'll go down and be tourists in Key West instead. We shall see.

MK's 14th Birthday
Thursday, March 25, 2010
The twins are headed off to Law School this fall. Jeff and his soon to be wife, Krista, will be headed to Baylor University which is just south of Dallas in Waco. Meanwhile, Nathan and Steph are off to the University of Idaho in Moscow, which is about a 2 hour drive away from Spokane, Washington.
What the heck? Vandals? At any rate, I am looking forward to checking both of these places out.
This past weekend was the annual fundraiser for the ward. 10,250 bags of mulch were dropped off in the church parking lot and delivered on Friday and Saturday.
The weather was perfect! 75 and sunny both days. In fact we all got a little sunburned. Bruce was in on the seriously heavy lifting for 12 hours on Friday and another 10 on Saturday. He worked his tail off! I decided there were enough willing peeps to do the heavy lifting so I stuck around the parking lot and made sure there were chili dogs (from Vienna Inn) and Subway sandwiches to feed the masses on both days. On Monday, Bruce and I were up at the crack o' dawn to return the trucks that had been rented. And just when we thought it was over, last night Mike and Dad had to pick up and redeliver 25 bags that went to the wrong house. But now we can say we're done and can't wait to hit up Florida for Spring Break:)

Easily Amused
Depressed after that debacle of a health care bill? Yeah, me too, but lucky for me I am easily distracted by sophomoric humor. I found this on Laura's Facebook wall and had to share.

In other basketball news, MK played well in her semi-final game yesterday. Well enough to make it to the town championship game which just so happens to be this afternoon during our sacrament meeting. Not only is it during Sacrament meeting, it's also Steven MacDonald's farewell and MK is on the program to give a talk. In the end it was her decision between 2 good things: keeping the Sabbath or honoring a commitment to your team for the biggest game of the year. So she decided that she's going to play and give her talk on another Sunday. We are hitting up Oak Marr ward this AM and then she'll make it back to Vienna for YWs. The game is at Madison HS. Stay tuned...
Meanwhile, a HUGE congrats to Jeff and Krista for their fantastic news! A full tuition scholarship for all 3 years of law school. Thank you Baylor University!!! I've always wanted to check out Texas! Bruce Google mapped the distance between Krista's home town of Cedar City and Waco: 1,308 miles and between Vienna VA and Waco: 1,408 miles. Couldn't be more central!

Our Balla
It's been a LONG DREARY winter. One bright spot has been getting to watch MK play basketball. She lives for basketball. She focuses on the sport like a freaking laser beam. Today was no exception. She has a great time playing point guard and this afternoon she helped her team to a 50-41 victory in the quarter finals. Here she is with her teammate, Justice. Between the two of them, they scored 32 points.

The Eukanuba Dog Show
The Olympics are over. So that means there was NOTHING on TV last night. At least we thought there was nothing on TV. That's when we stumbled onto it. The mother lode of entertainment. Dogs of all shapes, colors, sizes, and hair-dos.
t Even though I'm not really a big fan of dogs--never had one and never want one--there is just something about people getting dressed up in evening gowns/tuxedos to celebrate dogs. They'd be the ones who put bumper stickers on their cars that say "Caution: Show Dogs On Board". Like the human driving the car has less value? So along come the working dogs and the announcer is all over a certain doberman. He used the technical word for female dog at least 3 times in 10 seconds-- and I"m obviously paraphrasing but it went something like this: "She's a lovely #^*%" "You don't come across a #^%# like that everyday" and I spend most of my waking hours hanging out with a $*^$# named Peggy Sue." Of course it's an absolutely appropriate form of speech at a dog show, but MK and I are about as mature as 3 year olds so naturally she had to replay it just to make sure we were hearing it right. And then she had to replay it 10 more times because she could tell I couldn't breathe because I was laughing so hard and she just wanted to see how long I could go without air. ahhhhhhhh. DVR. How did we live without you for so long?
