Spirit Week

Monday: 80s day
Tuesday: Professional day
Wednesday: Ninja (for Mike)/Cowboy (for MK) day
Thursday: Jersey day
Friday: Class t-shirt day

So the question is....how to incorporate our latest Unique find into spirit week? He ended up going as a Professional American. That works, right?
He was only slightly obsessed with this jacket. The minute he laid eyes on it, he knew he had to have it, despite the fact that it stunk to high heaven. It took a bottle of fabric frebeeze, a container of leather wipes, a box of baking soda and a dozen dryer sheets to get the stench out.

In other news, MK lost her election. It was sad because her BFF, Olivia, got in and they really wanted to do it together. Oh well--there is always next year. Meanwhile I took MK homecoming dress shopping on Saturday. It was so out of character for her. Usually the only stores she will go in are Lady Footlocker and Brookstone. 15 minutes in Macy's and the deed was done. The transformation from Tom-boy to young lady will transpire on Saturday. Stay tuned...

Mutual Party/Ward Camp-out

True to form, the 4 week drought was interrupted by just enough rain to cancel the mutual pool party. So instead they all converged at our house at pretty much the last minute. The kids enjoyed chick-fil-a platters, soda and chips. We really have a great group of youth in our ward.
On Friday night we went to Lake Fairfax for the Ward Camp-out. We had an insanely good turn-out.

Mikey's Homecoming Posters

Mikey did these on photoshop to advertise the upcoming homecoming dance/spirit week. Only one of them can be used. They couldn't use the one with color because of copying issues. Can anyone figure out which of the other two can't be used?

MK's campaign posters

They all have candy around the border for kids to take:)

It's the most wonderful time of the year:)

Now that the kids are back in school I'm back to being a morning person. I love only having one school to deal with. This hasn't happened since 1993 when Jessica started at Thoreau. It's nice to have a few minutes with Mikey and MK when I take them to seminary at 5:50. Then the day is mine until I pick them up from school at 2:10. So far field hockey has been a lot of fun for MK. Her team is 2-0-1. Here she is after her game against McLean yesterday. She is also running to be a freshman class officer in the SGA. They take the top 4 vote getters and there are about 15 kids running, so it's an uphill climb for sure. Mikey is in SGA and is working hard on Homecoming. He designed all the posters that they will be using to advertise the dance this year. We had a fun visit with Bruce's brother Paul who came for his annual trip from Oregon to attend his 4th conference in DC. We have had hardly any rain for the past month. You could pretty much say we're in a drought. But that's not to stop it from raining on the mutual pool party tonight. Pretty good chance of thunderstorms. But then it's back to being a drought conditions for the next 10 days. That's DC weather for you.

September Birthdays!

Hope Stephanie, Nathan and Jeff all had great birthdays. We will have belated celebrations with them when we go west next month. Today is September 14th. We all know what that means: Spam casserole for dinner and John Battersby cake for dessert. I can smell it baking right now:) Here are the top ten reasons that Dad rocks:
He
1. Plans great vacations to places like Europe, Cocoa Beach and the occasional cruise.
2. Roots for BYU football and loves his Cowboys.
3. Pays for stuff. (that's an understatement)
4. The YM love him and sit with him at Madison football games.
5. Drives this to church most Sundays and doesn't care what people think: 6. Works hard. (another understatement)
7. Takes MK to Safeway.
8. Loves to SCUBA dive.
9. Loves to ride his bike.
10 And finally he's the best dad these guyscould ever ask for. Happy 39th--so glad I am no longer older than you.
