A visit to J & K's

We left at 5:40 AM after saying goodbye to Mikey and MK. MK's field hockey team dressed as nerds because they were playing TJ and ended up kicking their behinds 3-0. All I can say is 24 hours in Waco wasn't nearly long enough! We arrived here yesterday morning after probably the smoothest flight ever--we could see land all the way from BWI to Austin. We drove through downtown Austin on South Congress Street (which was packed because of a huge music festival) up to the State Capitol and then shot up I35 making one stop in Round Rock for donuts. Jeff requested them and were they ever good! As luck would have it, Jeff's afternoon class was canceled so we got to spend some extra time with him. We toured the law school which was AMAZING. Baylor has some exeedingly generous benefactors!! The new law school area of campus was built in 2001 on the banks of the Brazos River. Jeff certainly has a gorgeous setting to spend his life with his nose in law books! After the tour we met up with Krista who had just gotten home from work. They have done a great job making their apartment nice. It's in a great location too. We decided to go to Rudy's BBQ for dinner. It was a real taste of Texas--so yummy! We then drove up to Lake Waco to watch the sunset. Then to Katie's Custard for dessert which was too yummy for my own good. Last night we played Sorry--Jeff started out strong and ended up coming in dead last. ha! Krista and I also played Sequence. This morning we got up and drove up to Dallas so Bruce could gawk at Jerry's World aka Cowboys Stadium. We were there 3 hours before the start of the Texas A&M/Arkansas game just in time to see the ultimate in college tailgating. I have to think that no other state can do it better than Texas. The grills, canopies, pick up trucks and even satellite dishes (connected to car batteries) were mind blowing. No tours offered today, so we set off instead to the Texas State Fair. The Cotton Bowl is located smack dab in the middle of the fair grounds and the Baylor/Texas Tech game was being played while we were there. We found a nice shady area to sit down across from the stadium, and then went to a cool bird show, a lame dive show, the auto show and the baby animal exhibit where we saw cute piglets with their momma and this one week old baby calf. It was hot, ridiculously crowded (especially when the game was over and fans were pouring out of the stadium) and the food was greasy and over priced, so it more than lived up to expectations. We zipped back to Waco and decided to eat at the number one rated place on trip advisor: Viteks--but it was closed! At 6:00 PM! On a Saturday night! And their website claimed it would be opened til 10:00! Oh well, we enjoyed Chuy's Tex-Mex instead. It was really good! It was a short, but very fun filled trip with Jeff and Krista. They are doing great and we really hated saying goodbye :( Now we are back in Austin staying at the Hampton Inn where I just had my free hot cocoa. We are leaving bright and early tomorrow morning for Idaho via Vegas:)
